We wanted to reach out, and let you know about the upcoming winter Elwood Youth Lacrosse Season. After last season’s fantastic performance, we are all looking forward to getting back on the field!!! If you know of anyone who needs to be added to this email list, please let me know.

We are playing at Center Island Sports again this year. Games could be evenings and/or Saturday any time. This is a change from last year, so let me know if that is a problem for anyone. We will not have the schedule for a week or so. We also will get gym time starting in a week or so. For the Winter Season, Coach Kevin Lavey, Mark Elmendorf, Chuck Kurten and Rick Maddia are running the teams. You will see all or most of us at each practice and game.

We have over fifty kids signed up so far and have set up three teams. Two 5/6th grade teams and one 7/8th grade team. The 3/4th graders will play on one of the 5/6th grade teams. I will keep brothers together so travel time will be easier. In addition, some of the kids will have the chance to play on different teams depending on the roster for the week. We will send out the roster late next week.

Feel free to call or email anytime.

We have a great mix of kids at all different play levels. Some of the boys have 5-6 years, some have none. We will work with every kid, every kid will play, every kid will be a important part of the team and most important every kid will learn the game and have fun.

Just to go over some housekeeping…

Please make it a habit to check your email as most likely ALL communication for practices and games will be via email. If you wish me to use another email please let me know.

Your lacrosse equipment IS NOT included in your registration fee. You will need to have all required items purchased and on your child. Your child will not be allowed to participate until they are fully equipped for lacrosse. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ANYONE, PLEASE CONTACT ME AND WE WILL HELP YOU GET THE EQUIPMENT YOU NEED FOR THE SEASON.

All boys are required to have the following equipment:
· lacrosse stick,
· helmet,
· colored mouthguard,
· shoulder pads,
· elbow pads,
· gloves,
· and a protective athletic supporter (cup).

Rib pads are a personal preference, but not necessary.

Play-it-Again Sports on Jericho has a good selection of used equipment most of the time.

Also we would like each kid join US Lacrosse. If anyone needs help with this in any way, just give me a call. The web site is:

The youth fee is $25 dollars for the year. Let me know if you have any questions.

OK, this should get everyone going. We are really looking forward to working with the kids this year and will have a great season.

WINTER LAX IS HERE!!!!

Hi,
Now that football is coming to a close, it’s time for ELWOOD LACROSSE!!!! After our distinguished seasons last year, we are all ready to swing into full LAX and kick off the season with indoor winter teams. Like last year, Kevin Lavey ( Glen Varsity coach) is teaming up with us to run the winter season. Coach Rick and Coach Chuck will also be back coaching in the winter. VERY IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE AN EMAIL!!!!

New this year we are adding a 3rd-4th grade team. Ask around , and see who you know in that age group.

Please get this back soon so we can get the teams set up and ready to go. Feel free to pass this along to any 3rd-8th Elwood boys who might like to play. A copy will also be going home from school next week. I HAVE EMAILED IT TO ALL THE EMAILS I HAVE. Please call or email if you have any questions. Thanks.

Upcoming Season

Just wanted to pass on some information concerning upcoming lacrosse events.

1- In the early part of Nov. we will be sending out the forms for 2009/2010 Winter lacrosse. Games will start the first week of Jan. 2010. A flier will come home from school and I’ll email one to all of you.
2- We WILL be having a 3/4th grade team this year for all who are interested. Some of the 4th graders may be asked to play up on the 5/6th grade team also. Need to wait and see how many kids we get in each group. A minimum will be one 5/6th and one 3/4th grade team. Please pass this along when the time comes to anyone who may have 3/4th grade kids.
3- In the spring we will do the same groups and will be having practice at Glenn. Thinking about staying at Farmingdale for the spring so we can keep the existing team together.
4- Something new for the summer will be a travel tournament team which will play alongside the Glen varsity and JV teams. All the details have not been worked out, but Coach Lavey (the Glen varsity coach) is going to work with us to make this happen. Probably do several local tournaments and 1 or 2 out of town. Some of the 6th graders may be able to get some play time with the 7/8th graders.

That’s all for now. Let me know if you have any questions.
